KEY PROFESSIONAL STAFF
Gary Schaefer — Landscape & Snow Management Customer Service Representative • Certified Snow Professional
Ken WentlandOperations Manager • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist

With 19 years experience in a broad range of customer services and technical services, including with a nationally recognized one, Gary  joined us because he is eager to grow in new commitments to people, good service, and most especially, all things landscape.  He is a quality observer of grounds and his customers find him both personally engaging as well as highly observant of the needs of their grounds, whether it is Landscape Maintenance and Landscaping,  or their winter counterpart, Snow and Ice Management Services, which has become his specialty.  In 2006 he earned national recognition by passing the Snow & Ice Management Institute’s rigorous exam for "Certified Snow Professional."   Together with Shea Hughes, this creates the only company in SE Wisconsin with two "Certified Snow Professionals" on staff.

Steve Dunne — Landscape Design & Development • Maintenance & Tree Care Sales

Steve joined us in summer 2006 with 35  years experience in the landscape and horticulture industry, from early years in the greenhouse industry, then landscape construction, then 30+ years in a  comprehensive position of landscape design, new and renovation landscapes, landscape maintenance, and even interior landscape design for a prominent area multi-faceted company.  Early on he simultaneously earned professional degrees in Horticulture and in Marketing from two of SE Wisconsin’s specialty colleges, followed by years of university "short courses" in landscape design, trees, lawn care, and horticulture — all aspects of Landscaping & Landscape Maintenance. He is particularly gifted in residential landscapes, but by no means a stranger to commercial landscaping either. He can specialize in "hardscapes" that include walls, outcroppings, patios, walks, and water features, as well as "softscapes" that include plantings, perennials, annuals, ornamentals, trees, shrubs, and much, much more! Plus he knows Landscape Maintenance and Tree Care.  He and a colleague collaborated to develop for a prominent photographer a unique underground atrium photo studio, including a waterfall in a natural setting, carrying it from design to completion (all by hand without equipment!) — a project that earned them a first place award from the Wisconsin Landscape Federation.  Another prominent project was for WCTC for landscaping around the new Work Force Development building.  He is very comfortable with all types of clients, residential, commercial, condominium, and smaller home landscapes or prominent names from the Lake Country to Mequon to Lake Drive, even a one-owner island property.  People enjoy meeting and working with Steve. He is personable, knows his plants and landscaping, and can offer emphases from delicate and beautiful to functional and pragmatic.   Several on our staff have worked with him previously for extended periods, so this makes an effective team.

Jay Schmidt — Tree Services Manager & Consultant • ISA Certified Arborist

Jay possesses 20 years experience with trees & horticultural services, including considerable experience leading and supervising crews, scheduling, managing, as well as working with customers, and performing everything from diagnostics to treatments, prunings, and take-downs. In those years he has worked with other prominent landscape companies and customers. He joined us in 2003 and has quickly qualified himself to become manager our Tree Services operations as well as provide Tree Consulting / Sales (and in winter, an Area Snow Services Manager).

Brian Kuecker CLT • Construction Manager • Landscape Design & Development Services

Brian possesses many years experience and acquired knowledge and skills in both working in and training, motivating,  and managing crews working in all aspects of landscape construction and renovation — with a specialty both in knowledge of and passion for "hardscapes," such as retaining walls, brick paver patios and walks, decks, and pond construction. Brian is equally at home with plantings, trees, shrubs and mulching and edging — and in all facets of Landscape Maintenance, from lawns to shrubs and trees.  Clients find him personable and knowledgeable, and very articulate in communicating and understanding landscapes and clients' needs and wants.   In 2001 he earned the qualifications for Certified Landscape Technician administered nationally by the prestigious professional oversight organization ALCA.  Prior to joining us he led crews in all types of pond construction. In 2007 he earned the national ICPI Certification for modular paver installation (both installation and design and specification criteria). A highly organized and  knowledgeable person,  Brian has quickly become a key participant at the heart of American Landscape and the future.  In winter he also serves as an Area Snow Services Manager, while continuing to direct and plan the Landscape Design and Development Services department, and serve on the Strategic Planning & Development Committee of the company as a whole.

Scott KenardMowing • Area Supervisor

Scott, who has grown up with us over more than 20 years in mowing and snow services, has been promoted to a key area supervisor.  He is a very conscientious employee — very serious about doing a good job always.

Char House — Mowing • Area Supervisor

Char has been with the company for more than a dozen years, growing continually in skill, conscientious work-standards, and increasingly into supervision & training.  After successfully taking charge of all winter sidewalk services & crews, she has been promoted to a key area supervisor for mowing operations.

Tyrrell Hughes —
Corporation President
 • Chief Customer Representative

Tyrrell is our chief customer representative.  Over 34 years experience and ownership in lawn maintenance, landscaping and snow service — he has worked, planned, and/or designed in every aspect of this business at one time or another and continues to this day.  Besides his years of experience, he has farming, engineering, and teaching backgrounds, plus possesses degrees in several fields ranging from mathematics and physics to medieval studies and theology.  He recently completed the raising of 5 children, and is enjoying a growing number of grandchildren, now 12 ... and soon to be 14!

Other Experienced Staff — Head Mechanic, Mowing Operators ...

Experience is the dominant characteristic of our other staff as well, not to mention longevity.  For example, the two senior mowing operators have 28 years experience with our company.  Our head mechanic has 21 years experience in truck and equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

With a broad and highly successful customer services and supervisory / managerial background with several prominent landscape maintenance and landscape companies, Ken  joined us to further his interests and passion for people, training and development of staff,  good service, and most especially, all things landscape. His prior work led to awards, including a national landscape management award for a prominent area commercial client from ALCA, the green industry’s professional oversight organization. Ken is a true professional in terms of plant and tree knowledge, measured both by certification (Certified Arborist) and even more so by mature experience & training, which results in confidant identification, troubleshooting, and a marvelous reputation.  Customers find him both personally engaging as well as highly observant of the needs of their landscapes, whether it is Landscape Maintenance, Improvements, Tree needs, or their winter counterpart, Snow Services, from plowing to ice controls.

Chris Bolda — ASLA • Landscape Design & Development • Maintenance & Tree Care Sales

Chris joined us in winter 2005-06 with nearly 20 years experience in similar work for a prominent area landscaping and landscape maintenance company.  Besides the 20 years experience, he also possesses a degree in Landscaping, Landscape Design and Horticulture. His landscape specialties are "hardscapes" which include walls, outcroppings, and pool landscapes, among others, and "softscapes" which include plantings, perennials, annuals, ornamentals, trees, shrubs, and much, much more! Plus he knows Landscape Maintenance and Tree Care equally well.  One is impressed meeting him, how plant and landscape knowledge of every kind is spoken with ease and confidence — and a ready smile!  Customers obviously enjoy meeting and working with him.  Several on our staff have worked with him previously for extended periods.

Patraic Maloney Landscape Design & Development, Maintenance & Tree Care Sales

Patraic is welcomed as highly experienced (20+ years experience all across the landscape and horticulture industry starting in his teens with his own landscape maintenance business).  Energetic, focused, and committed to quality and improvement, he joined us in the fall of 2006.   Already, he has been not only contacting his clients, but also aiding the process of developing a spearhead to new company brochures and informative literature for our prospective customers.  He has a broad and eclectic education, both formal and practical, encompassing architecture, business administration and marketing, fire sciences and EMS training,  and landscape design, construction management, plants, annuals, perennials, trees, and pest management.  Plus he is committed to community service (Chamber, Fire, Community newspapers and organizations, and business networking).  Many recognitions and awards have been given him over the years:  Beautification awards, Best Landscape Renovation Award (WLCA), Parade of Homes recognitions, among others.  Every aspect of landscaping, landscape maintenance, and snow-services he knows from the inside as well as from formal training, and has been involved in projects all the way from 2K to multi-million dollar ones.  Hence, as a servant of his customers, he seeks first to listen and learn what the customer both wants and needs, so that what is designed and produced will be both what the customer wants and have the correct plants, materials, functions, and appearance for the site. His goal is that the project will be tailored to the customer.  At American Landscape he will be representing commercial landscapes, residential new and renovation landscapes; plus landscape maintenance, trees, and snow management services.   You will enjoy him!

Mark Oleszak — Lawn Care Supervisor

Mark joined our company a year ago to take charge of all lawn care services, fertilizing, weed-control, lawn insects & diseases, and more.  He possesses mature knowledge and experience with several significant companies in the area—and continues our commitment to professional application of turf science.  Beginning winter 2005-06 he has taken charge as our Snow Operations – Dispatcher, keeping communications and equipment flowing over the whole storm-services operations.  As a participant in our annual winter Strategic Planning meetings this year, he offers keen insights and experience for all operations — he is a sharp observer.   And to boot,  he is an expert at holiday lighting!

Mark Jones — Technical Maintenance Supervisor  • ISA  Certified Arborist

Mark joined our company in winter 2005-06 to take charge of all Technical Maintenance services:  flower plantings, pruning of shrubbery & ornamental trees (deciduous & evergreen), weeding programs for landscape and planting beds, vegetation control for walks, pavement, curb seams, foundation bases, fences — all those horticultural services beyond mowing and lawn care. He possesses a degree in Urban Forestry and has some 17 years experience in the green industry, 14 of them for a prominent landscaping / landscape maintenance company.  His mature knowledge and experience includes flower design and planting, tree and shrub care & pruning, all aspects of horticultural maintenance — shrubbery, perennials, annuals, ornamental trees and shade trees.  Not only has he studied and worked in all these areas, he also has worked directly with customers as a supervisor, department manager, and / or account representative.  Very cordial and affable, customers will find him a worthy source for both information and for management of the Technical Maintenance personnel serving their landscape.
