About Us

Our Customers

We wish you could meet our customers. Yes, "the Customers do write our checks!" But it has been extraordinarily rare that this ever comes up in discussion as a "trump card". These are good people, earnest people, generally welcoming and caring people: Board members, conscientious homeowners and property managers, corporate buyers, small business presidents. Almost universally they bespeak the commonplace about Milwaukee & SE-Wisconsin being like the world's largest small town, made up of people from all walks of life, sometimes characters, but especially friendly, welcoming and good to work with. Dozens of customer relationships go back 5-10-15-20-25 years and more.

Our customers are located all throughout Greater Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin - Menomonee Falls, Mequon, New Berlin, North Shore, Oak Creek, Franklin, Sussex, River Hills, Fox Point, Wauwatosa, Elm Grove, Germantown, Brookfield, Pewaukee, Waukesha, Hartland, Delafield, among others---really anywhere in SE-Wisconsin!

Who we serve throughout SE Wisconsin:

- Corporate Operations - Residential Homes

- Hospitality Services - Condominiums
- Hospitals & Medical Services       - Subdivisions

Next Generation's 2nd Foundation

Shea Hughes, the Next Generation's 2nd Foundation of American Landscape

sheahughessmlServing as a controller for a manufacturing company in Tennessee, Shea began to have the desire to run his own company. So Shea and his father, Tyrrell began having long distance discussions about the operations of American Landscape. In 2002 the talk became reality: His experience elsewhere earned him the position of managing the company and helping directly shape the next phase of American Landscape's future.

Since then it has been quite a ride: First to take American Landscape to the next level; ultimately to take over the family business. We are now 9 years into that project. First he was made General Manger - and then President. And we have seen significant growth in all key company landscape service ventures, particularly in design and development, a stronger supervisory staff, an advanced sales team, and implementation of fresh ideas for productivity, customer service, and overall viability.

Our Founder

Tyrrell Hughes

tyrrellaboutusTyrrell is the Founder of American Landscape. For 38 years, he has served as the company's guiding light. His experience in landscape maintenance, design and development, and snow management services are steeped in breadth. He has worked, planned, and helped lead in every aspect of the company's existence and that continues to this day. Tyrrell works with an extremely loyal group of clients. And he deeply enjoys working on creative projects.

Tyrrell was raised in a small Midwestern farming community and went to school in a one-room country school. His father was an early practitioner of sustainable agriculture and conservation, taking a rundown farm that would grow corn only 4 feet high and yield barely 35 bushels per acre, and through patience, hardwork, suffering and practicing restorative agriculture, changed that land into the most productive in the area, winning a national award in 1947. "I remember to this day my father scooping up soil in his hands in a freshly plowed field on a Thanksgiving Day, running it between his fingers, demonstrating he could tell by feel the qualities or deficiencies of that soil." These early experiences proved profoundly formative and ultimately led him to return to working the land, but in a different way than his father.

Tyrrell also has an extensive background in engineering and teaching. He possesses degrees in several fields ranging from mathematics and physics to medieval studies and theology. He has 5 grown children and is enjoying a growing number of grandchildren, now numbering 17 (and soon to be 18!).

Our Team

Family culture has long been fostered - and has been nutured still more strongly since Shea came on board as President of Operations. The "flat" organizational structure and culture encourage and develops delegation, personal responsibilities, personal growth, and continuing exploration of fresh methods, goals, technologies and creative solutions to old or new issues!
